A two-month voyage around the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the death of an older female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a isolated island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The vessel left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff realised the woman was not present.

A major rescue mission found her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, alongside police and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from boarding the liner.
