This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
