The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the hit series wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
