Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Response

Slot highlighted familiar failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
