The ex-lawyer for the former president has stepped down as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a court battle that invalidated her right to serve.

US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, accepted the prosecutor's departure on the start of the week. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it "untenable" for the official to perform her duties.

"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "My fight will now extend throughout the nation."
