Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
