Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
