American Armed Forces Executes Deadly Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
As stated by a senior defense official, the US armed forces executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Background and Recent Actions
This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military presence.
Just on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Actions Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has faced increasing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.
While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
